## 2.5 Commitment to UK consumers

FBRE.uk is the visible commercial layer of a 20-site UK network. The canonical, honest tier split is 7 commercial / 7 free consumer tools / 6 public-interest. The commercial sites fund the rest. We are in active engagement with Ofcom on the Price Comparison Accreditation Scheme.

### 7 commercial sites (affiliate-disclosed)

These sites earn money through affiliate commission when a UK consumer chooses a deal and switches. Every page carries an affiliate disclosure. Ranking is based on Total Contract Value, not commission per click.

- BroadbandSwitch.uk - UK broadband postcode comparison (DR 74).
- Fibreswitch.com - UK broadband postcode comparison, full-fibre focus (DR 73).
- SearchSwitchSave.com - Multi-utility hub: broadband, TV, mobile, SIM-only (DR 72).

### 7 free consumer tools (no ads, no signup, privacy-first)

These sites carry no advertising, no signup wall, no email capture and no resold data. They are funded by the 7 commercial sites above.

- UKSpeedTest.co.uk - UK broadband speed test (DR 73). "No server-side storage of test results."
- Laggy.uk - Free UK broadband speed test (DR 47). "Privacy-first. Analytics run only if you opt in."

### Ofcom Price Comparison Accreditation Scheme

We have approached Ofcom directly about the Price Comparison Accreditation Scheme. Ofcom has agreed to engage and has issued us their Due Diligence pack, which we are actively completing. We do not yet hold accreditation. We will publish the submission, the assessor's findings and the outcome (positive or negative) when complete. The scheme assesses comparison services against five principles: Accessibility, Accuracy, Transparency, Comprehensiveness and Independence.

### Conflict-of-interest policy

Several of the 7 free tools cross-link to commercial sites in the network. These cross-links are editorial decisions, not paid placements. Routing is chosen on the basis of which tool best answers the visitor's next question, and routes to non-network sites (Ofcom Connected Nations, UK NCSC guidance) where that is the right answer.

### Independent challenge route

Any UK consumer, journalist, regulator or competitor can challenge anything on any of the 20 sites by emailing hello@searchswitchsave.com. Acknowledged within one UK business day. Substantive challenges investigated within five UK business days. Corrections published in a public log linked from /methodology. Where a dispute is not resolved at our end, it can be escalated to the Communications Ombudsman or CISAS, in line with Ofcom General Conditions.

## 9. Frequently asked questions

### What does FBRE actually sell?

Three things, in order of priority. Tenancy and advertising across our live network of 19 UK broadband and tool sites (20 sites total including ParentalControl.uk safeguarding, which carries no commercial inventory). Comparison-site builds for broadband and mobile. Premium UK broadband domains from our in-build inventory of 14.

### How verified is the 12 million impressions figure?

It is the sum of organic, paid and social channels for the 12 months to 24 May 2026, drawn from Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Meta Ad Manager, YouTube Studio and Ahrefs. Full methodology at https://fbre.uk/methodology.

### Why is FBRE.uk only DR 42 when the network top is DR 74?

FBRE.uk is the commercial hub for the portfolio, not a consumer comparison destination. Consumer authority sits on the operating sites: BroadbandSwitch.uk (DR 74), Fibreswitch.com (DR 73), UKSpeedTest.co.uk (DR 73), SearchSwitchSave.com (DR 72).

### Do you name the comparison software vendor publicly?

No. Our build studio uses trusted industry-leading comparison software with more than two decades of UK broadband production. We name the underlying technology under NDA on a qualified call.

### How long does a comparison build actually take?

White-label speed test from £6,500: two to three weeks. Postcode availability checker from £7,950: two to four weeks. Switching journey from £27,950: six to eight weeks. Full CMS comparison platform from £27,950 plus £2,000 monthly: live MVP in six to eight weeks.

### Are the 14 domains for sale really aged and built on?

Yes. Each domain is registered, hosted, indexed, and has a starter content stack. Backlink counts and last-refresh dates are published per domain. Transfer completes within seven working days of cleared funds via a recognised escrow service.

### Is ParentalControl.uk part of the commercial offer?

No. It is the public-interest safeguarding programme of the SearchSwitchSave Group, aligned to the Ofcom Children's Codes that came into force on 25 July 2025.

### Who is behind FBRE and the SearchSwitchSave Group?

Dr Alex J Martin-Smith. Founder, author of record, and the direct contact for tenancy, builds, domain sales, and partnership enquiries. Reach him at hello@searchswitchsave.com or 0330 122 1223.

### How many of your sites carry advertising?

Seven of the twenty. The seven commercial sites (BroadbandSwitch.uk, Fibreswitch.com, SearchSwitchSave.com, BroadbandNow.co.uk, BroadbandHunter.co.uk, HotBroadbandDeals.co.uk, NewcastleBroadbandDeals.co.uk) carry an affiliate disclosure on every page. Thirteen sites carry no advertising at all: seven free consumer tools, one safeguarding scanner, one wellbeing site, one explainer site, two community games, and the FBRE network hub. See https://fbre.uk/commitments for the full classification.

### Are you Ofcom accredited?

Not yet. We have approached Ofcom directly about the Price Comparison Accreditation Scheme. Ofcom has agreed to engage and has issued us the Due Diligence pack, which we are actively completing. We will publish the submission, the assessor's findings and the outcome (positive or negative) when complete.

### How do your free tools make money?

They do not. The seven free consumer tools (UKSpeedTest.co.uk, Laggy.uk, HowFast.uk, RightSpeed.co.uk, BroadbandBoost.co.uk, BroadbandMap.org.uk, NewPasswordGenerator.co.uk) carry no advertising, no signup walls, no email capture and no resold data. They are funded by the seven commercial sites in the network.
